Journalists in Delta State have been called to continue to put in their best in professional practice.
This call was made by the duo of Comrades Akpati Eddie Ogude and Norbert Chiazor who attended the first Congress of the State Council of NUJ to celebrate the new year with their colleagues.
Mr. Ogude who took time to advise journalist, said love for one another is the only way they can continue to usher in peace and unity into the Union.
He also said working together in love, peace and unity would underscore the best interest of the Union at all times.
Ogude who is the National Vice President of NUJ for Zone F (South-South) said “Chiazor remains my brother, friend and colleague in whom I am well pleased. Chiazor took very good care of me when he was chairman of NUJ. Whatever was due for me as a leader, he gave to me wthe ith utmost respect.
“We have come today to celebrate with you in love and to assure you of our unalloyed support for your activities. We are also glad that the current leadership of the State Council is doing its best in advancing the peace that some of us leaders had bequeathed to the Union in the State.
“By my position as the National Vice President of this Union, I want to encourage you to continue to work together. We must all continue to promote the love, p,eace and u ty currently existing in the Union. And at the appropriate time when we shall all take position on who leads the Union in the State in the next three years, we must do it with one body, one purpose and one interest”, Ogude posited.
Responding, the immediate past chairman of the State Council, Comrade Norbert Chiazor who sang a gospel song to glorify God, said he had come to celebrate with the Congress of the NUJ for their show of love and prayers towards him.
Comrade Chiazor appreciated God who made it possible for him to be appointed by the Governor as SA Media immediately after his disengagement as the Deputy General Manager of Delta State Broadcasting Service, DBS Warri.
Chiazor who bought assorted drinks for the celebration with members of the NUJ, also charged the leadership to continue to keep the Union together and stronger as a legacy it should be proud of thereafter.,
He therefore, assured the Congress of the Governor’s commitment to complete the NUJ Secretariat in no distant time.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu who was in high spirit, appreciated the two highly respected leaders for their presence at the first Congress in the year and also the first Congress at the Permanent Secretariat by Maryam Babangida Way.
Ikeogwu said he decided to open the year’s Congress with fasting, prayer, praise and worship as a way of reverencing the omnipotence of God in the affairs of the NUJ in Delta.
He especially commended Comrade Chiazor who began the construction of the NUJ Secretariat from foundation to roofing, among other legacy achievements he left behind. He acknowledged that his administration was only adding finishing touches to the level Chiazor left the building.
Ikeogwu therefore, thanked them for their support so far, while also soliciting that they continue to assist the Council, especially in getting the remaining money from Government to complete the building proect .
