The Nigeria Union of journalists (NUJ), Delta State Chapter under the Chairmanship of Comrade Mike Ikeogwu has today kicked off her 2019 Press week with a sensitisation cum keep fit rally in the heart of Asaba.
The NUJ Chairman, while addressing journalists during the rally this morning said “The Press week is an annual ritual held across the country and to let the world know that NUJ exist and also to take stock of the effect of NUJ on the year in review.
Also speaking, he said this year press week will serve as a forum to honour people, deserving Deltans and Nigerians who have contributed to the development of the society.
Comr Mike further emphasized the need why this year press week is different, saying “We need to raise fund for the furnishing of the press Center that is still under construction, as counterpart funding to the effort to the Delta State government towards completing the secretariat.”
The NUJ Boss called on the general public, well to do Deltans, cooperate organizations, operating within the state as well as their benefactors, to join hands in the fund raising so as to complete the press Center as those whom will personally furnish as much as one office apartment (#500,000) will have their names engraved on the door(s) of the office.
Comr Mike also commended the effort of the Delta State NUJ council as one of the most vibrant councils across the country, as its aims to position the union for effective performance and to enhance the welfare of its members.
The theme for this years press week is “Enhancing Safety of Journalists in a Security-Challenged Polity” which kicked off today with a keep fit, cum sensitisation rally continues on wednesday the 11th day of December, 2019 which is set aside to visit old and sick members, while Thurday 12th will be a football match between NUJ and Government House protocol team and Friday December 13th, will be the lecture and award day at Davis event center , opposite temple clinic junction, anwai road Asaba.
