A police inspector, Tolaju Martin, attached to Ago police station in Lagos State as Station Officer (SO) has been arrested.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana and made available to newsmen.
According to the reports, Inspector Tolaju was seen in a viral video on social media, while counting the money he extorted from the owner of a vehicle he impounded for violating the restriction of movement order during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The PPRO report also curtails that, after scrutinizing the video which surfaces the internet, the culprit was easily recognized, then been arrested.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Criminal Investigation to conduct an in-depth investigation into the activities of Ago Police Station as a whole.
The CP reaffirmed his position against corrupt practices and impunity while ordering the arrest of the inspector to be handed over to the Provost Marshall for Orderly Room Trials.
He also ensures to update members of the public on the outcome of the investigation.
The statement added that the money extorted was also recovered by the Commissioner and it has been handed over to the complainant after he was also been identified.
